Grandmother's Apron was Born

Some of my most treasured childhood memories are those of visits to my Kentucky grandparents. Granddaddy raised the most amazing garden every summer, filled with rows of corn, green beans, the best tomatoes I’ve ever tasted, yellow squash, and zucchini. He and Grandmother had a yard that was filled with beautiful flowers. To say they were both blessed with green thumbs is an understatement!

Granddaddy would let me and my sister set up a vegetable stand in their front yard to sell the extra produce to neighbors. Grandmother was a wonderful cook and made delicious meals using only produce from the garden. We always had to call her “Grandmother” - none of those cutesy names for her (like Lolli, Mimi, or Gigi). And she always wore an apron. What I would give to have one of her aprons today! Grandmother always put us to work - setting and clearing the table, washing dishes, or helping in the kitchen. It never seemed like a chore - I just enjoyed spending time with her. So to honor those special memories and the legacy of family who taught me the importance of homemaking skills, I decided to use Grandmother’s Apron as my shop name.

Meet Mary

Hi! I’m Mary - a wife, mom and Lolli. I feel like I've been creating since I was a child and being creative makes me happy!  Several years ago, I started Grandmother’s Apron, mainly focusing on baked goods - pies, breads, muffins and sweet treats. Then the pandemic happened and I didn’t feel comfortable baking for others during that time so I switched to needle arts - crocheting and sewing.

Both my grandmother and Mom sewed and quilted. My Mom sent me to sewing lessons the summer between 6th and 7th grade, and I’ve been sewing since then. From high school outfits, a prom dress, and a going away outfit for my wedding. Then baby and kids clothes, big kids clothes, curtains, pillows, Halloween costumes for my own children. Now, I focus mainly on kitchen and hand towels, baby burp cloths, skirts, and hair accessories.
